Recommending incontinence protection for every stage in a woman’s life

Women’s bodies change as they go through different stages in life. And as they grow older, the likelihood of experiencing incontinence increases. Here are some of the key stages in a woman’s life that you can make easier by recommending the right TENA products. With your service and expertise, your customers will keep coming back over a lifetime of changes.

Post-pregnancy

Childbirth weakens the pelvic floor. This can cause bladder weakness or leaks for a while after childbirth. This is called post-partum incontinence and it is very common. TENA’s market-leading products can give new mothers the support they need by helping them stay dry, comfortable and confident while their bodies recover.

Proper postpartum pads like TENA Discreet Protect+ are thicker and longer than normal pads, which also help cushion any areas that might be extra sore. TENA Silhouette High Waist offer triple protection from leaks, odour and moisture immediately after birth. As leaks get lighter over time we recommend TENA Discreet Ultra Liners, while TENA Lights Sensitive are ideal for skin that is still sensitive after childbirth.

Menopause

Bladder weakness is one of the most common symptoms of menopause. This is mainly because during menopause the body stops producing as much oestrogen. Oestrogen helps keep the bladder and urinary tract healthy. Decreased levels of oestrogen may result in symptoms like vaginal dryness, urinary frequency, urgency and urine leakage. These symptoms are collectively known as “genitourinary syndrome of menopause” (GSM). Between 40-60% of postmenopausal women experience GSM, but few seek treatment.

Recommending pelvic floor exercises can help control the bladder and little leaks. Avoiding caffeine and alcohol can also help as they can irritate the bladder and cause feelings of urgency. You can also recommend TENA products such as TENA Lights Sensitive – a thin, discreet liner with fast absorption for the protection of the most sensitive of skin.

Senior years

People experience different types of incontinence as they get older. Functional incontinence happens when individuals can’t get to the bathroom in time due to, e.g. mobility issues, physical or mental impairment or clothing that is difficult to remove. Mixed urinary incontinence is common among seniors, especially women. It is a mix of urge incontinence (an urgent need to pee) and stress incontinence (occurs when sneezing, laughing, or exercising). There are also other medical conditions and medication that can impact the bladder.

Recommending incontinence products that help your customers retain their dignity and independence will build trust and loyalty. For example: TENA incontinence pants pull up like regular underwear, for comfort and protection – day or night.

Caring for ageing, fragile skin

Incontinence can damage ageing skin, which is fragile and slower to heal. Recommending TENA 3-in-1 Wash Cream between baths or showers can help keep delicate skin clean and protected, without using soap and water.
